Apologies for not paying better attention, but is Lashoff still a member of the Holy Trinity?

As in, “JESUS, Lashoff”!!??

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today recalled defenseman Brian Lashoff from the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

Lashoff, 28, has appeared in 17 games for the Griffins this season, logging three points (0-3-3), 19 penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating. The 6-foot-3, 219-pound defenseman has played parts of 10 seasons for the Griffins since making his professional debut during the 2008-09 season. Lashoff has tallied 87 points (21-66-87), a plus-18 rating and 213 penalty minutes in 417 games with the Griffins. The Albany, N.Y., native has also recorded 19 points (5-4-19) in 73 AHL postseason games for Grand Rapids. The blueliner is one of three two-time Calder Cup champions in Griffins’ franchise history, winning AHL championships in 2013 and 2017 with Grand Rapids.

Originally signed by the Red Wings as an undrafted free agent on Sept. 30, 2008, Lashoff appeared in one game for the Red Wings during the 2017-18 season and has skated in a total of 123 NHL games since the 2012-13 campaign, recording 13 points (2-11-13) and 57 penalty minutes, in addition to donning the Winged Wheel for eight NHL playoff games. Prior to turning pro, Lashoff spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, logging 91 points (20-71-91) and 186 penalty minutes in 215 games between the Barrie Colts and Kingston Frontenacs. Lashoff also won a gold medal for the United States at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship in Saskatchewan, picking up two assists in seven games.

Hopefully they just brought Lashoff up to sit in the Cleary Cabana so they’ve got a warm body if necessary

Doesn’t 10 NHL games mean something from both a contractual /RFA standpoint as well as possible expansion rules?

I thought i read this morning that the expansion guidelines were based on AHL and/or NHL game played whereas the contractual/RFA was NHL ONLY. Would have to do some research to confirm though.

I hope Blash picks the goalie for tonite who minds getting shelled the least, bkz with that D corps, the Leafs are going to have a shooting gallery.

Not as far as expansion draft, altho there may be exceptions. More than one year pro makes them eligible, which includes AHL. Coreau was eligible to be drafted by Vegas, for example.

I checked, 10 NHL Games does define a “season” for restricted free agency purposes.

Had a feeling this Dman would end up as a healthy scratch anyways, but I think part of this is about telling the GR prospects “be better”.

I have to assume that KH wants to make a player available that nobody wants (when they go back to GR) and not waste any games of his 10 NHL game eligible players in GR .  A forward from the GR has been called up twice (age 28 but don’t remember his name).  Otherwise it is a mysterious KH thinking thing.

I guess it would be cruel to call up a prospect and keep him the entire year and when a DMan returns put E on waivers.  Probably a dangerous move as I would bet no one wants him either (not even GR).

yeah i doubt the prospects are dumb enough to fall for mind games based on a premise that far out. “Hey guys, Lashoff the 28 year old career AHL’er is getting the call because he’s been on fire and you guys need to step it up!”

He got the call because they want the other guys to get their regular minutes and don’t care if Lashoff sits for the weekend.

I agree with you that is the underlying reason, along with game count implications, but they obviously used the opportunity to send a message in the media too

“Sure, the 25-year playoff streak is over, but I’ll be damned if the “oldest team in the league” streak is going to end under my watch.” Ken Holland, probably.

And Ken, when we say that Brian Lashoff should be playing men’s league hockey, this isn’t what we mean.
