Brendan Perlini looked relieved when he saw his linemate’s shot sink into the opponent’s net.
While fellow newcomer Robby Fabbri showed a hot hand in his debut and ever since, Perlini finally has a point to take into his next game. The Detroit Red Wings host the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit) on a five-game points streak.
Perlini earned an assist in Saturday's shootout loss at San Jose when he fed a nice pass to Taro Hirose, whose shot from the slot made it 2-2.
“It was nice to finally get us on the board there,” Perlini said Monday. “Our line, we’ve been snakebitten for a while, so hopefully that kind of breaks it up and we can get going and contribute here.”...
Perlini is the highest draft pick in the Wings’ lineup, taken 12th overall in 2014 (the year the Wings grabbed Dylan Larkin at No. 15). Perlini wasn’t getting a chance in Chicago; the Wings are giving him that opportunity.
“The biggest thing I’ve tried to focus on with him is on himself and on the process of how he’s playing,” coach Jeff Blashill said.
