I've been thinking aboot the teams of the past and what Steve Yzerman meant to all Wings fans for over 20 years. Bringing the Cup back to Detroit two years in a row. The greatest team ever assembled in 2002, playing one leg, then I stop myself from waxing nostalgic.
He is no longer one of us. He is an adversary, a formidable opponent with a pretty good Hockey Team right now. Tampa (10-3-1) is currently riding high atop the Atlantic Division.
The Wings (7-3-4) on the other hand, have moved back up into third in the Atlantic, and are going to try to put an end to Tampa's current streak. We have a pretty good Hockey Team too. Only three points separate the two Teams.
First TPH, and now Zetterberg, have proven to be good Captains in this after Yzerman era, and these young Wings have heard all the stories. Probably watched lots of games growing up.
A few Wings have even played on the same team as Stevie Y.
All that needs to be pushed back into the past. We are going forward with a really good crop of talented youngsters, and after the win on Friday, maybe some more confidence.
Thanks for the memories Stevie, but, now it's time to make new memories of our own.
