A Victory Would Sound So Sweet In Nashville

Paul here filling in for IwoCPO tonight.

In my opinion, if the Wings can leave Nashville tonight with a regulation win, they would make it extremely difficult to be caught by the Preds.

The Wings would be 8 points up although the Predators would have a game in hand.

Let’s hope the Wings play like Barry Trotz described them today, via Brendan Savage of Mlive.

“The one thing we talked about this morning is they have a tradition of winning,” Trotz said. “They are going to work. Their workers are in (the lineup) right now.  What’s happening is they’re rallying as a group to come with an all-out effort.  If you don’t come with an all-out effort, you’re not going to beat anyone in this league no matter what the injury situation is.

“They’re still strong in goal with (Joey) MacDonald, they’re still strong on defense even though they’re missing Lidstrom. Their. top four (defensemen) are still pretty good. They’ve got Zetterberg, who is going really good. They’ve got workers behind that.

“They play strong defensively and they capitalize on their offensive chances. They don’t have as many dangerous people but they’re still a very effective group. They play a 200-foot game and it’s going to be a lot of work and a lot of grind.”

One more thing- Mule, instead of being a worker, time to turn into a scorer again tonight.

It’s a Liv Blog bi*****.

Just like the Russians in ‘72. Except for the part about the goals.

One thing White needs to do…is watch tapes of Rafalski and his two steps up before letting one go.

Well that is quite a bummer. Wings need a new PP plan.

Ya all stay well and safe!

If they want to make the game better they need to figure out a way to stop teams from doing whatever Nashville does.

Well that blew.  Wasn’t unexpected though.  Was actually surprised and a bit impressed DET still found a way to make a game of it given all the guys out.

I wonder why everyone else (not just DET fans) can see that the obstruction and other crap has crept right back in, but the league can’t and denies it.  This NAS game was a perfect example of it.  You could have called a penalty on NAS every 3 seconds.

I don’t see Kyle Quincey being consistent enough to warrant the fuss.  He’s on one night, completely lost the next.  Last night, he was completely lost.

Smith is still a stud.  Fil is still being a stud.  Nyquist is falling somewhere in between reminding me of a young Fil or Pavel (somewhere in there) in terms of instinct and style.  They need to find a way to get him in DET with a regular shift next season.  A line of Nyquist, Emmerton, and Mursak/Tatar might be fun.

Kudos to Joey Mac for hanging in there with no much in front of him.  He may not be getting W’s, but that’s not his fault and that’s still what Conklin wasn’t giving.  And IIRC, there’s nothing saying Conklin couldn’t still come back up for playoffs so… Joey Mac needs to stay on his game because it sounds like Conklin is maybe finding his in GR.

The reality guys is that there really is no hope of getting the PP back on track now until guys come back.  If they were struggling before, they’re completely overwhelmed now… we barely have an acceptable PP1, let alone a reasonable PP2.

It’s too bad they couldn’t have stolen a point last night though.
