A Look At The Atlantic Division

07/13/2019 at 7:06pm EDT

Back in action.

from John Vogl of The Athletic,

With most of the summertime moves completed (except possibly in Buffalo, where there’s potential for a Rasmus Ristolainen blockbuster), The Athletic’s writers in the Atlantic Division have put together their 2019-20 roster projections. Using them as a template, we’ll look at where each team ranks on a line-by-line, pair-by-pair basis....

To rank the lines and pairings, we used the player ratings from Corsica Hockey. Each skater’s rating is based on his contributions offensively, defensively, at even strength and on special teams. The scores for the lines and pairings are determined by adding the players’ ratings together.

First line
Boston: Marchand–Bergeron–Pastrnak (253.9)
Tampa Bay: Ondrej Palat–Brayden Point–Nikita Kucherov (242.2)
Florida: Jonathan Huberdeau–Sasha Barkov–Evgenii Dadonov (241.7)
Detroit: Tyler Bertuzzi–Dylan Larkin–Anthony Mantha (236.8)

Detroit's 2nd and 3rd line are ranked 7th in the division and the 4th line is at the bottom of the list.

On defense, the 1st pair of DeKeyser and Hronek are 7th. The 2nd pair is 6th while the 3rd duo is 5th.

Below, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press on the changed in scouting for the Wings (Thursday),

The Detroit Red Wings' scouting staff has undergone change under new general manager Steve Yzerman, and it involves former GM Ken Holland.

Tyler Wright, the Wings' director of amateur scouting since July 2013, along with fellow amateur scouts Jeff Findlay and Andrew Dickson are gone. Those were the three men primarily in charge of running the amateur draft under Holland. They were at the draft table when the Wings shook up the first round of the 2019 draft in June by selecting German defenseman Moritz Seider at sixth overall. The final call, of course, belonged to Yzerman.

Wright and pro scout Archie Henderson have joined Holland, who was named GM of the Edmonton Oilers on May 7. Yzerman had offered Henderson a contract to stay.

"We are currently working through changes," Yzerman told the Free Press on Thursday afternoon.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
