Blast Away: Kronwall’s An “Elite” Hitter

Note to Paul: you should be receiving more emails soon, you know the kind.

October’s just a shot-gunned PBR away and I’m starting to feel it a bit.  A prime indicator?

This….

Breaking 40.  39 More Cup-less Tuesdays.

In the unlikely event you’d forgotten?  We’re looking at 39 Tuesdays until the Cup comes back to Hockeytown, where it belongs, where it’s appreciated.  39 more Tuesdays until Pens fans can stop pretending they know how to be happy about something they realize their team didn’t really earn.

Now hold on Penguins fans. Don’t get angry. It’s not my intent to get you all worked up. You have a nice team that played a very good half-season last year then took advantage of some good fortune in the Finals. And you get to keep awkwardly celebrating it for just under forty more weeks.  Awesome.

But…when the one-trick Tuesdays come to an end? It’s back to Detroit, where providence says the Cup belongs.  Why?

Wing Bloggers Roundtable Stops At A2Y

I’ve been searching for imagery of Jiri Hudler in a Baltic barnyard.  No “luck” so far, but l’ll keep looking.

In the meantime?  All your favorite Wing bloggers plopped down, cracked some warm American cheap stuff and answered three questions from yours truly. I think I got everybody but my gmail inbox is a frigging three-ring circus.  So, if I missed you…let me know.

Twice The Vomit

I’m not sure what makes me want to throw up in my mouth more, the absolute guarantee I’m making right now that UM is going to lose to Western…or this,

Khan(!)

Veteran goaltender Dan Cloutier, out of hockey last season, will attend the Detroit Red Wings’ training camp (Sept. 13-15) on a tryout.
Cloutier, 33, who contacted the club and asked for the tryout…

So…of all the teams Cloutier could have contacted, he chose the Wings?  Or did his agent, if he still has one, do a mass fax saying his boy was on the hunt for a team?

Roundtables Galore: Carrying News That Must Get Through

If the post title confuses you, then you weren’t here yesterday.  Epic discussion and I have no idea who or what Ween is but I’m gonna find out.  I did you all a disservice though, because I didn’t point you to some roundtable ditties.

Triple Deke and Bingo Bango had great stuff yesterday and Wednesday.  Snipe, Snipe, Dangle, Dangle was on the hook today and the topic is one of our favorites: goaltending.

Wing Bloggers Talk Pouty Poutertans and Sociopaths

George Malik’s on the clock for Day 2 of the Wing Blogger Roundtable.  His subject today?  The explosively volatile topic of Jason Williams and Todd “Hannibal” Bertuzzi.  He spoke with a bunch of us, copied some stuff and then pasted it all over hell and beyond over at Snapshots.

He asked us if we’re cool with the offseason work of one Tick Tock Kenny Holland.

Denver Backs In: #10 On the A2Y Rivalry Depth Chart

Part one in a series to determine the Red Wings’ greatest rival.
———
Denver is the exception.  Of all the teams in the Top Ten, they’re the only team who offers exactly zero threat to the Wings, the only team that is actually getting worse from year to year.

As a genius said in our preview post yesterday, the only thing the Dive are any good at is sucking.

But because of March 26, 1997….they made the depth chart.  And in true Dive fan fashion? They got on there ass-first.

Ten Bitches: The A2Y Rivalry Depth Chart

Well, there’s a first.  After 22 years of blogging about hockey, the word “bitch” has finally been used in a post title.  It was inevitable and I guess I’ve held off because I know that it’s wrong.  I know it’s not something Paul would approve of.  I know it.  But dammit, sometimes you just have to push back you know?

Tomorrow morning we finish what we started last summer.  We’ve narrowed the field to ten candidates and we’ll begin the countdown and the re-creation of the A2Y Rivalry Depth Chart.  I’m going to give you the criteria now, the list of teams in alphabetical order, and then tomorrow we start anew with the tenth team on the depth chart analyzed and ripped to shreds, along with their fans.

Wing Bloggers Talk Olympics

Christy Hammond’s assembled the most prolific panel of Wing bloggers in history.  Eleven of us typing all at the same time.  So many subjects, so much typing.  Every day we’re going to point you in a different direction, to an old blog or a new one.  It will be glorious.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
