Note To Mr. I:  Set aside 100K.  No, Set aside 400K

Little Gary Bettman has taken Octogate a step further.  As John Niyo points out, he’s now stationed an off-ice official at the Joe’s ice entrance to prevent Al Sobotka from even touching an Octopus, much less swing it.

Last game, as you’ll remember, Sobotka waited and waited for the linesmen to do his old job for him—there’s a skill to it, they discovered—then after they brought the octopus to him, he swung it in the tunnel, and the fans roared as the JLA jumbotron showed him twirling in exile.

Saturday, Van Massenhoven was there to make sure that didn’t happen, apparently. The first octopus was picked up by Avs rookie Cody McLeod, who taunted the Wings’ bench with his catch and then hurled it over the visitors’ bench and into the crowd. But the two splats that followed at the other end of the ice—a message to the NHL front office, I’d say—were scooped up by linesmen, who then passed them down the chain of command, bypassing Sobotka.

Decisions In Denver

Anyone predict a sweep?  Anybody?  One guy did.

Ken Campbell, The Hockey News Senior writer

Detroit over Colorado 4-0 – Just a hunch, but it says here the Red Wings will prick the Jose Theodore bubble early and once that happens, the floodgates will open and pucks will come rushing through.

Am I ready to join that parade, even up 2-0?  No, not yet.  But I do have a couple other views your family may find interesting.

A Tidbit For The Confident Dive Fan

Official A2Y attorney at large, Okie Jeff, posted this over at the KK forum this morning.  For the Dive fans and bloggers who have begun to frequent our happy home the last few days, I give this to you.

Jose Theodore allowed four goals in 21 minutes before being pulled in favor of Peter Budaj in the Avalanche’s loss. Theodore has a 17-9 career record in first-round games, but he’s 2-14 in the second round and has lost his last 12 second-round decisions.

Live Blog kicks off at 1445 EST.  Yes, Dive fans, you’re more than welcome to join us.  Your viewpoints are valued, as always.

It’s a Game 2 Saturday.  Want Some Keys?

Update 1240 EST:  Dandenault stays.

Spring time in the nation’s capitol (al).  Absolutely perfect weather. A day made to take the top down on the jeep, load up the family and drive down (over, up? I have no idea) to Maryland’s eastern shore and thank all that is holy for the opportunity we have to enjoy all of nature’s wonders.

So I think I’ll break out the Pepe Lopez, sit cris-cross applesauce on the floor and rock back and forth for the next 7 hours until the game starts.

Is Your Tummy Ok?

I’m not sure I’ve made myself clear on this issue, so maybe it’s time I expanded just a bit on my feelings for Dive “fans”.  We’ll get to that, as usual. But first…this.

I don’t care if Forsberg’s hurt, Wolski’s done, Jose 3 or 4 has himself case of the runs. None of that matters. Actually, it does matter. It makes me happy.

Oh No He Din’t….It’s a Game 1 Live Blog

Once again, for the second time the last three games, I’ll be missing the live blog tonite, DVRing the game and sitting through an official
function trying not to soil the cloth of our nation.  I’ll be receiving your comments and emails throughout and won’t read a single one.  Don’t
try to send me notes and trick me either, the ones titled, “Your House Is On Fire”.  You almost got me last time but it didn’t work.

Defeating The Dive: Keys to R2, G1

Hey, how about that?  My cousin, who lives in Nashville of all places, commented on the “There will be blood” rant below.  Bastard won’t call or email me, but when it’s time to stab some Dive fans in the temple, boy, there he is.  For you, cous, we may have a Rocky III reference coming up real soon.

As I write this it’s 6 hours until game time.  I’m ready to present to you the keys to victory, and happiness.

Oh, There Will Be Blood

Round 1 was a quaint, engaging experience for Wing fans—particularly the 19 readers of A2Y.  Bubba’s fans dropped in from time to time and exchanged a few barbs with the faithful.  Friendships were formed between the two fan bases.  We bid them farewell and wished them the best.  Bubba’s bloggers came by occasionally and a few serious-minded, even-keeled hockey discussions took place.  Children were smiling.  Puppies frolicked as firetrucks waited outside, offering rides.

Well, you can leave that crap at the door brother.  Leave it.  Because Round 2 is a whole new ballgame, a whole different dynamic.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
