A Few Wednesday Morning Ditties

I would expect the reaction to last night’s spanking will be interesting.  I’ve found a few items I believe you’ll enjoy.  I present them to you with our standard grace, tact and humility.

Daddy’s Home

I don’t know Patrick Kane.  Never met his family and haven’t really researched his personal history.

So I have no idea what thoughts went through his mind after Dan Cleary flattened him like a frigging bug last night in Hockeytown.

But if I had to guess, I think it may have been something like this, “Uh oh. Dad’s pissed.”

Waiting On The Thunder Again, Eh?  Well You Can Stop ‘Cause It’s A Big Fat Live Blog

It always comes back to Night Moves, you know.  All the big ones.  All the big games, all the live blogs that cap off a day of stress.  It’s always Night Moves that settles me down.

Frigging Seger. What a genius.  No matter where you are, where you live or what you’re doing, you can always point to Seger and say, “that guy’s from Michigan.”

Kinda like the Wings.

MacLean: Holland Concerned.  Scotty:  About What?

According to Doug MacLean on the Fan 590: “Holland wouldn’t want to start the playoffs with the way they’re playing right now.”  Scotty Bowman, who some would say is a bit smarter than MacLean, hints that the Wings may be bored and that they’ll come out well tonite.

Listen here.

That Sweet Nectar Yuengling.  It Will Flow Like The River.

Good evening.  I guess by now you know that tonite is “one of those games.”  Obviously, like the Pittsburgh game, the San Jose games, the Boston game….this one is the biggest damn game of the year.

Until Thursday.

Because, really, we all know by now that the best team in the NHL resides in Chicago, eh?

Tuesday’s Gone.  Thursday?

Classic Skynyrd for your Monday.  Nick Lidstrom’s doubtful for Tuesday night, according to Khan(!).  Another MRI confirmed no break, but the swelling’s sticking around.

“It’s about the same as the other day, still swollen, not quite there yet,’’ Lidstrom said, after an off-ice workout. “It’s day-to-day, see if the swelling goes down tomorrow and feels better. I couldn’t skate today. I did an MRI this morning and it was negative, that’s good that nothing is broken, but it’s still real swollen.’‘

And Conklin’s starting Tuesday.  Thursday too, probably.

Dear Mr. Rosenberg

I just don’t know.  Maybe the Lions bring out the best in all of us.  I’ve spent a lifetime honing my sarcasm using them as an easy target.  Luckily for all of you, I’ve re-directed it toward my immediate family and all things Wing-related.

Now that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped giving the rest of our teams their just due. Oh no. In fact, I can be almost equally “caustic” (see comments from Saturday’s live blog...apparently, that’s a bad thing) when discussing any one of them.  It’s possible.  It is.

And so, I’m asking you this Michael Rosenberg.  Come on over.  Test the Wing waters.  Bring some of what I read this morning over to our side of the yard.

Because we dig stuff just like this:

Dater:  Drink Up Dive Fans

Saw this yesterday and decided to save it for tonite’s extravaganza from the Ass Can.  Adrian Dater, after several paragraphs devoted to the Dive’s number one center—-Tyler Arnason—-has this recommendation for the 14 die hard Denver fans left in his dear city.

...if I’m a fan of the Avs, I’m taking a good, stiff drink before tomorrow’s game.

All the spritzers you can sip, Dive fans.  Send the bill to Adrian.

Osgood, Lidstrom Both Sitting

Uncle Mike’s not taking chances on tonite’s game in Denver, not with two big ones against a real rival looming.  Nick Lidstrom’s ankle hasn’t improved, (“It’s about the same as last night,’’ Lidstrom said.“Still swollen, can’t really move my foot the way I would have to in my skates. Day off tomorrow will help,”)  and Conklin’s in net.

...trainers are being extra cautious with Chris Osgood’s strained groin. Osgood said he would know on Monday whether he’s playing Tuesday at home against Chicago. They haven’t made it official, but it’s safe to assume Conklin will start in the Winter Classic on Thursday, given Osgood’s injury.

George Sipple has more on Lidstrom’s injury.  There is potential for sadness.  I’m just warning you.

Until Lidstrom’s Back…It’s All Static

Last February proved something to all of us:  if the Wings lose Nick Lidstrom for anything longer than a commercial break, certain doom is to follow shortly.

So losing to Bubba last night?  Secondary.  Irritating? Yes.  But because we’re a big picture group here, the loss itself matters little.

Now, it’s all about the ankle.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
