Mirtle: It’s A Detroit Dynasty

Again, Gary will love this too because you know how this would coincide with his nocturnal dreams of parity.

Any number of stats you can pick out since that point will blow you away, but I like this one best: Since Lidstrom joined the team as a rookie in 1991-92, the lowest Detroit has ever finished in the overall league standings is sixth, which they did in 1998-99. There were two other years Detroit was fifth in the NHL over those 17 years, and one fourth-place finish, but the other 13 seasons they were first, second or third.

And the Wings haven’t finished lower than third overall in a decade.

Gary’s Agenda

It doesn’t have to be a sinister thing.  There is no Deep Throat, no Jeff Gillooly, no Shoeless Joe giving in to a little fiscal temptation.

It just boils down to this and it’s real simple:  Gary Bettman does not like the Detroit Red Wing organ-I-zation and he would like Sidney Crosby to hoist the Cup.

It’s not a conspiracy, it’s just a deep burning hatred that Bettman feels for Mike Ilitch, Jimmy Devellano and Ken Holland.

“Elite” Enough For You?

Unbelievable game. And hats off to Cristobal Huet.  Who could have ever expected him to play to that level in this game?  Not me.  And none of you did either, not even the Hawk fans.

Chris Osgood played the best playoff game of his life.  It’s as simple as that.  It was a Hall of Fame performance from a HOF goalie.

And this guy can just go ahead and suck it.

Seriously.

Is this guy going to deny the Detroit Red Wings a spot in the Finals where providence has decreed they belong?

Big Game 4.999999919 Tonite In Hockeytown

We don’t talk too much about series clinching Game 5’s around here.  So, I’ll be referring to tonite’s matchup as a Game 4.99999919.  I’m sure it will make a huge difference.

That’s still like 7 hours away though.  And I guess, based on some math I just did, that we could be looking at around 10 hours until I can talk about the stuttering idiot of a Pittsburgh DJ I heard last week on my way home from Hockeytown after the Wings OT winner in Game 2.

I’m smart that way, not tempting fate.  I never have.  I guess when I become an “elite” blogger, I’ll consider it.  But not yet.

Custance: Lidstrom and Datsyuk Out Tonite

More to follow. Just got this off Twitter from Craig Custance.  He’s reporting both out tonite.

More from Khan(!),

Update from the morning skate Wednesday: Nicklas Lidstrom (lower-body injury) and Pavel Datsyuk (bruised foot) won’t play tonight in Game 5 against Chicago, Wings coach Mike Babcock said.

Datsyuk skated in a sweat suit briefly before practice. Lidstrom rode the exercise bike.

“They’re both getting closer,’’ Babcock said. “I’d like to think they’re going to play next time we play.’‘

GDT - W.C. Finals, Game 5: Red Wings (3-1) host Blackhawks (1-3) (7:30)

It is by necessity that the GDT is quick and dirty today, I have to work out of town.  Hopefully the Wings will make quick and dirty work of the ‘Hawks tonight as well.  If my memory serves me right, the Wings haven’t done too well the last two opportunities they have had the chance to close out a series in 5 games.

Uncle Mike isn’t even thinking about “resting” Lidstrom or Datsyuk:  ” “If they’re ready, they’re playing,”  Datsyuk did skate yesterday, says Khan(!) Q-stache says ‘Bulin and Havlat are day to day.

This could be the last time for the ‘Hawks tonight.  Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Consequences Of Losing Fedorov To The KHL

It’s sure looking like it.  Craig Custance doesn’t dig it. Neither do I (more on that when it’s confirmed) and neither does Chris Osgood.

Custance

“To lose those guys is huge. We have to figure out a way to keep guys like Sergei and Jagr and those great older veteran players, have them over here and find roles for them,” Osgood said. “I think it’s important to have older guys like that, that younger European players can look up to when they get over here and understand how to handle themselves on and off the ice. That’s what guys like Igor Larionov did for him.”

Widdle Patty Was Maaaaaaad

God I need to frigging grow up.  Remember when Mule swiped Patrick Kane’s mouthguard and threw it on the ice?  ‘Member?

Reaction from MacLeod.

“It was right there, couldn’t resist,” said Franzen.
Dan Cleary can be seen smiling in the Youtube vid.
“I’ve never seen that,” said Cleary. “It was only the three of us, the ref, the linesman, that really had a good feel for it. It was just funny how the whole thing went down. He (Kane) was mad.”

So mad that he….skated away.

Awesome.  And more importantly, MacLeod’s post-practice update is a little more optimistic regarding Datsyuk and The Swede.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
