GDT - Game # 64:  Red Wings at Blues (8:30)

Detroit is in the Gateway City tonight to, hopefully, overcome the Blues.  Although DET is 6-3-1 in their last ten games, they are coming off a thorough @ss-kicking from NSH Saturday night.  Perhaps, in an attempt to instill some grit in the dressing room, DET has called up 6’ 5”, 220 lb Defenseman, Jonathan Ericcson.  Ericcson will take Lilja’s spot.  Lilja, certainly not the only Wing to get pummelled, is out at least two games with a concussion and knee injury.  DET has also called up enforcer Aaron Downey.  To make room for Downey and Ericcson, DET sent down Leino and Helm.  Diggers say Hoss will play tonight.

The Blues, in the meantime, have made a serious charge up the standings going 6-2-2 in their last ten games, and are winners of 3 straight.  As a result, St. Louis finds itself amongst the quagmire of teams battling for the final playoff spots.  St. Louis currently has 64 points, and sits in 12th place in the terribly crowded tier of teams battling for the bottom three playoff spots.

6 Columbus 63 g/p,  68 pts
7 Edmonton 62 g/p,  67 pts
8 Anaheim 64 g/p, 67 pts
————————————————————-
9 Nashville 63 g/p, 66 pts
10 Minnesota 61 g/p, 65 pts
11 Dallas 62 g/p, 65 pts
12 St. Louis 62 g/p, 64 pts

Violated

The Wings, appropriately, played the role of Ned Beatty’s “Bobby” last night…and they played it to perfection.  While not in Georgia, the haunting melody of Dueling Banjos was everywhere.

Uh Oh.  This One’s Gonna Hurt.  Dive Fans…Save Yourselves. Don’t Read.

Just gathered the family around the computer.  My youngest is learning to read and doing great. So we like to give her longer and longer passages. Confidence builders, you know.  Here’s the one we selected for this afternoon and she really seemed to enjoy it.

Pavel’s Night With The Sharks

Kind of a hectic week and that caused me to gloss over the performance Pavel Datsyuk gave us Wednesday against “the best team in the NHL.”  Gary’s official scoresheet shows an average night, unless you watched the game.  1 assist, 4 hits, a few shots and only 7 faceoffs.

But we know better.

Game 1 Goes To Murphy And….“Pred Wings”?

Yep.  Larry killed me last night.  Finish a sentence Murph.  Just one.

Kopecky scored?  Really?

If you say so.

I’ll leave it up to you guys to decide if “Hit Me Mick” is on the agenda for this evening.  From what I can tell, the idea is a very good one. The execution needs some work.  Anyone who’d like to take a crack at revising the rules, have at it.  I’ll post. We’ll vote. Etc.  One issue to be considered is that a lot of us will only get the road broadcast.  However, adapting the rules to fit the idiocy of Weber and Crisp sounds entertaining as well.

GDT - Game # 63:  Red Wings at Predators (8:00)

Detroit travels to Nashville tonite after beating the Kings at the JLA Friday, 2-1, behind an improbable performance by Ozzie who stopped 30 of 31 shots (0.967). DET is only 3 points behind SJS for 1st in Conference.  NSH sits 11th in Conference, but only 1 point out of a playoff spot.  DET is looking for their third straight win over NSH.  NSH is trying to match a season-high fourth straight win.  DET is 9-2-1 since their 5 game skid in January.  It has been noted by the Diggers this week that Conks is to start tonight.  NSH is offensively challenged, averaging 2.37 g/g (29), and their PP is an anemic 13.6%. However, NSH have held opponents without a single power-play goal in seven of their last eight games.

Rules of Engagement: “Hit Me Mick”

Update….Update….Update:  Added one to the “finish it” category.

Here we go.  The rules are finished, but still a work in progress.  Meaning, they will evolve as we go along from game to game.

And, no, we’re not doing this every game.  I won’t be responsible for tardiness, firings, domestic “issues”, etc.  As of now, we’re restricting “Hit Me Mick” to Fridays or Saturdays and maybe Sunday afternoons, with the occasional weekday game thrown in perhaps 9 or 10 times per month.  But that’s it.

Now, the rules are below and I’d like to think this will spread quickly through Red Wing nation. I expect this document to be plastered on refrigerators, dorm rooms, coffee tables and tattoo’d on the lower back of every Upper Pensinsula woman over the age of 18.

Oh, alright…the trolls can “stamp” it too.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
