It’s a Luongo Love Fest

Our DD’s are all over the jock of one R. Luongo this morning.

Detnews/Kulfan

There’s a different feel these days around Vancouver, and it’s easy to see why.

The acquisition of goaltender Roberto Luongo last summer has transformed the Canucks. Now, instead of trying to outscore opponents, the Canucks know they can win the close games with Luongo in net.

So…I Was Wrong?

Update 2205: Maltby just scored and the Wings return to their rightful place atop the Central. Put your teeth in and eat it Bubba. Obligatory bad injury news: Filpulla left with a "lower body injury." Alright. I'm guessing a few of you are going to be commenting tomorrow that I should be taking back a few of the less than savory things I've said about one Jiri Hudler. The young man is proving his mettle (and I'm certain I'm jinxing us all right now as I write this with 12 minutes left). But dammit if the kid didn't just score his fourth in 3 games and 3rd in the last two nights.

When You Don’t Pay Attention…

...you miss stuff. I know that for a fact because my wife kinda tells me sometimes. And here are two things I haven't paid attention to, mainly because I just don't care. (1) The Saskin email/pending dismissal thing. I suppose because Chelios is so heavily involved I should show some interest, but I really have no interest. (2) The revised draft order. I suppose because it was influenced by our Wunderkind Kenny, it should interest me. But it didn't, until I browsed some other blogs today and saw what others were saying about our innocent Wings.

Behind Some Stats

Interesting tidbit on the Hockey News today.

DETROIT: The Red Wings have the best and worst plus-minus marks in the league. Defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom leads the NHL at plus-36, while winger Kyle Calder – a trade deadline pickup from Philadelphia – is at the bottom at minus-29.
But...what don't they say?

Consider The Nest Stirred

Woops. It would appear that one of the 7 Tennessee residents with internet access has contacted Paul to begin a discourse (conversation) regarding injuries to Bubba and the Wings. Apparently he/she feels that (a) the Preds injuries are more serious than the Wings (whatever), (2) that Hartnall is better than Bertuzzi (again, whatever) and (3) that Forsberg is more valuable to Bubba than Zetterberg is to the Wings (thank you for the ammunition). Not surprisingly, the Wing fans (you) are responding.

Bearing Down On Bubba

Oh, we'll get to the happiness that is Kyle Calder and Jiri Hudler and Robert Lang and, yes, Chris Osgood. We'll touch on the type of joy only brought on by frolicking puppies and wins at The Gay. We'll discuss the novelty of a division race in mid-March and the Toastmaster-like communication skills of one Michael Babcock. But first: suckage. No one knows when Hank Zetterberg's coming back.

Just When You Thought He Couldn’t…Kulfan Digs Deeper

With the playoffs around the corner, Ted Kulfan is ramping up the intensity. Tenacious in his quest for any bit of news that would lead to an idea of the condition of the "decimated" Wing roster, he's turned up the biggest story since last year's Lockergate.

"You know everything is made up, everything is about the story, but if you go and have good seats, you see these big guys and they're good athletes," Hasek said. "They can jump, do flips -- I was amazed. They're huge, 6-foot-4, even 7-feet tall, and they're like gymnasts. It's a hard sport, I tell you."
Yep, Teddy's afternoon blog entry...four hours before the Nashville game...breaks the big news that Dominik Hasek's a wrestling fan. Truly a banner day for the Detroit News.

Bubba Beckons

And so really it boils down to three games, starting tonite in front of a raucous, toothless, mostly related and phonics-challenged crowd of baby-poop clad Bubbas and Bubbettes. As I stated earlier, the Detroit News doesn't care. As I've stated MANY times earlier, 99.9 percent of the state of Tennessee doesn't care either. But the fact remains, they have to play tonite. Little Gary says so, despite the same injuries that plagued the same teams (with a few more thrown in for Detroit) as the last time.

Is There A Game Tonite?

Perusing one of our Detroit dailys (or is it dailies?) this morning, just glancing, browsing, skimming. You know the drill.  Above the fold, predictable MSU coverage a few days from the tournament.  Not unexpected.  Hard hitting feature on high school refs. Below: a column from Big Bob on the tournament and the drill down on public golf courses.  Is there a hockey team in Detroit?

Nope. Must be a scheduling snafu. No game tonite folks.  The Wings can’t be playing Bubba with the division on the line, right? I’m sure if they were the Detroit News would at least mention it on the Sports front.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
