Send ‘Em To Sweden, Just Leave Manny Behind

So, Khan(!) is telling us the Wings are considering opening next season in Sweden.  He also says the opponent may be, drum roll, the Blues.

Ooh.  Grab them ratings Gary.  Grab ‘em.

Awww….Thanks Denver

Wow.  What a gift. What a thoughtful present.

For my very special day, an oh-so-special bit of loveliness from our friends in Denver.

Your Choice…Flippin’ Out With Great Danes Or A Live Blog

Deep in the hearta and we’re going with ZZ Top for tonite’s featured artist.

Here’s the deal.  I’m “going out to dinner.”  I have a feeling this is some kind of wack-job 40th birthday surprise party, 3 days before the actual event.  If it is? I won’t be back for the Live Blog.

Suarez, Sucking Stars and Our Crazy Uncle Mike

I made a vague reference the other night to a new nemesis of mine, Dr. Lalo Suarez.  This morning we reveal his identity.  It’s exciting.  And…what the Hell is Mike Babcock doing?

All that and more….now.

Another Reminder Denver Didn’t Need

Adrian Dater with some harsh reality for the last 4 Dive fans left in Denver,

Detroit lost Brendan Shanahan, but had a lot of key guys under contract beyond that year. Plus, Detroit’s key guys were younger than Colorado’s—starting with Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. Those two guys have made all the difference in recent years, and it was the astute drafting of them in later rounds by Detroit management that made it possible.

Let’s face it, the Avs have not been as good as Detroit in recent drafts—most especially in the finding of good Swedes.

Uncle Mike’s Not Stressed.  Are You?

What, him, worry?

Khan(!)

“I’m not concerned one bit, as long as Ozzie just gives himself a break, goes home and enjoys his family and gets on with it,’’ Babcock said. “He’s a real good goalie, knows how to play; and by his numbers, he knows how to win.

“And yet, to me, he’s being way too hard on himself, letting one goal affect his mindset.’‘

Introducing The A2Y Happiness Quotient

I’ve decided that when your save percentage is .876, it’s no longer a “save percentage” because that’s a little too optimistic.  Fail percentage? That’s a little too harsh.

So, from this point forward that particular stat will be my “happiness quotient.”  If Osgood’s is above .900? That’s when I’ll be happy in a Wing-related way.  Below?  Well, sister…that’s a recipe for surliness.  So, after games like last night, even though the outcome was “good”, the mood in my personal space is not.

Six Hours Later?  Our Goaltending Still Sucks

It hasn’t been long since I went to bed wondering how many of the 19 would reply to last night’s panic-post with claims that I’m overreacting…again.  I know there are a few of you who feel that a number one goalie who has sucked for more than a quarter of the seaon is no real reason to stress.

I’m here to tell you that if you’re one of those, then you aren’t as intelligent as me and MacLeod.

Coach Mike Babcock is obviously fed up with his team’s goaltending and he should be. Three straight games giving up a goal on the first shot against ... that alone would be bad. But tonight, the fat rebounds, the lack of hugging the post, the soft outside goals. The goaltending is so bad that it makes you forget about how soft the team defense was. If either Conklin or Osgood gets hot, Babcock will ride them.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
