Abel to Yzerman
Khan(!), ya little bastard. He tells us Cheli's tired and headed home to Hockeytown.
Chris Chelios returned home after Saturday's game in Vancouver, as part of a scheduled rest. He'll play Thursday against Columbus. Johan Franzen (upper body injury) might be ready to play Tuesday in Calgary but Dan Cleary (sprained knee) is not ready. He's also got tidbits on Kopecky re-signing for two more and Bertuzzi's return.
Of what you ask?

Yes, dammit. I know there should be one of those little French accents over the “e” in cliche. You got the point. And you know what it is already. Oh yes, it’s time to bring back the daily….“if the playoffs started today” update.
Greg Wyshynksi ranks the coaches today. Mike Babcock? A respectable 8th, with this caveat.
Even Dave Lewis never lost back-to-back one vs. eight conference quarterfinals; will Babcock?
Not very nice Greg. Not very nice at all. That made me sad. Who’s number 1? Well, I gave it away with the headline, but read on.
Our DD’s are all over the jock of one R. Luongo this morning.
There’s a different feel these days around Vancouver, and it’s easy to see why.
The acquisition of goaltender Roberto Luongo last summer has transformed the Canucks. Now, instead of trying to outscore opponents, the Canucks know they can win the close games with Luongo in net.
Thanks to the folks at WDFN, we bring you Chris Chelios’ regular Thursday interview in its entirety. Today, Cheli discusses Bubba, Hudler, Bertuzzi, Saskin, Chris Simon and more.
Update 2205: Maltby just scored and the Wings return to their rightful place atop the Central. Put your teeth in and eat it Bubba. Obligatory bad injury news: Filpulla left with a "lower body injury." Alright. I'm guessing a few of you are going to be commenting tomorrow that I should be taking back a few of the less than savory things I've said about one Jiri Hudler. The young man is proving his mettle (and I'm certain I'm jinxing us all right now as I write this with 12 minutes left). But dammit if the kid didn't just score his fourth in 3 games and 3rd in the last two nights.
...you miss stuff. I know that for a fact because my wife kinda tells me sometimes. And here are two things I haven't paid attention to, mainly because I just don't care. (1) The Saskin email/pending dismissal thing. I suppose because Chelios is so heavily involved I should show some interest, but I really have no interest. (2) The revised draft order. I suppose because it was influenced by our Wunderkind Kenny, it should interest me. But it didn't, until I browsed some other blogs today and saw what others were saying about our innocent Wings.
Interesting tidbit on the Hockey News today.
DETROIT: The Red Wings have the best and worst plus-minus marks in the league. Defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom leads the NHL at plus-36, while winger Kyle Calder – a trade deadline pickup from Philadelphia – is at the bottom at minus-29.But...what don't they say?
Woops. It would appear that one of the 7 Tennessee residents with internet access has contacted Paul to begin a discourse (conversation) regarding injuries to Bubba and the Wings. Apparently he/she feels that (a) the Preds injuries are more serious than the Wings (whatever), (2) that Hartnall is better than Bertuzzi (again, whatever) and (3) that Forsberg is more valuable to Bubba than Zetterberg is to the Wings (thank you for the ammunition). Not surprisingly, the Wing fans (you) are responding.
About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
